Astra's Sub-agent Design Revealed: Inter-agent Messaging, Recursive Spawning, Forked Context vs Hermes
pvncher · x · 2026-09-07
pvncher revealed that Astra is trained to use a distinctive multi-sub-agent setup unlike Claude Code:
- Agents can message any other sub-agent, or all of them
- Agents can be spawned recursively
- Context is forked by default
Teknium responded by contrasting his Hermes framework: it only implements #2—sub-agents can't talk to each other and only submit final work to the orchestrator, with fresh context provided by the orchestrator plus skill references of what it had loaded. A useful window into two very different multi-agent collaboration design tradeoffs.
