Teknium: Fable Orchestrating Astra Works Best, 1390 Subagents in One 19-Hour Session

On September 7, Teknium of Nous Research shared findings from multi-agent practice: using Fable as orchestrator with Astra as executor subagents works significantly better, whereas having Astra orchestrate its own subagents repeatedly failed.

Responding to claims that it was merely a harness/prompt issue, Teknium said Fable handled the system with ease: it reviewed all subagent trajectories and even suggested harness improvements, so the agent harness held up.
Community users @pvncher and @maxdietel each verified the combo works well for code refactoring; after Astra's own orchestration attempts failed, it reviewed the refactoring session logs and itself recommended switching to Fable for orchestration.
@pvncher detailed Astra's subagent architecture: it is trained on a multi-subagent architecture distinct from Claude Code—subagents can message each other and broadcast, recursively spawn subagents, and fork context by default.
