Seth Lazar: Social sciences must self-critique before asking labs for funding

Commenting on Henry Farrell's NYT op-ed, researcher Seth Lazar argues that while the call for governments and AI labs to fund social science more is important, it ignores why funders are reluctant: parts of the field have been co-opted by a narrow ideological agenda, undermining its claim to impartial truth-seeking in the public interest. He says self-criticism and accountability must accompany any funding demands.
