Responding to a claim that phone-based remote control of a Codex CLI session must bounce through a ChatGPT desktop session, alexisgallagher says this is false.
- Setup: run codex remote-control on Linux, then complete a pairing flow in the ChatGPT app with a token
- He set it up on iOS before even updating the macOS app, and his Mac is often asleep — no desktop relay needed
- He had avoided the new macOS app over Electron prejudice but found it works great
