GPT-6 Astra designs a 6-layer F405 flight controller PCB in 3 hours using 52M tokens
deedydas · x · 2026-09-07
A hands-on record shared by deedydas shows GPT-6 Astra operating KiCad via Computer Use inside Codex to design a complete F405 6-layer flight controller board:
- Autonomously handled schematic, PCB layout, routing and component placement, step by step
- Ran ERC/DRC checks itself, then revised the circuit and layout
- Exported Gerber, drill files, BOM, pick-and-place coordinates and STEP files with 3D preview
- Took 3h13m56s and 51.9M tokens at high reasoning effort
The board hasn't been fabbed yet, so real-world functionality is unverified — but the design-to-Gerber automation is striking.
