The Guardian's new podcast series Black Box: The Chatbots opens with journalist Michael Safi investigating "AI psychosis": hundreds of people worldwide now believe they've made extraordinary scientific discoveries with ChatGPT, Claude or Gemini, or that their AI has "awakened" and is leading them to a higher spiritual realm. Episode 1, "Spirals," follows two people on strange journeys with their chatbots in the US.
