Dev builds Diablo-inspired browser ARPG Evergrow with Astra, open-sources playable prototype
Dimillian · x · 2026-09-06
Developer Dimillian (Thomas Paul Mann) is building Evergrow, a gothic top-down 2D action RPG for the browser inspired by Diablo and Path of Exile, iterated largely with the Astra coding agent — which auto-checkpoints his game saves. The repo is open on GitHub and will land on Sites for local play soon.
Current state (playable local prototype):
- Characters & saves: 8 local save slots, character hall, equipped previews, automatic checkpoints
- World: 7 blended biomes, procedural towns with walk-in interiors, day/night lighting, scrolling minimap and explored-world atlas
- Combat: melee, bows, elemental staves, shields/dual wield, dodging, 6 enemy archetypes across 3 ranks
- Builds: classless skill tree with 2,113 nodes, 150 constellations, 17 active skills
A striking showcase of how far agentic coding tools can push a solo hobby game project.
