AI glasses cheating spreads worldwide as expert warns of 'checkmate' for traditional exams

The University of Auckland has disciplined a student for wearing AI smart glasses into an exam despite explicit device bans, and Deakin University assessment researcher Thomas Corbin warns such cases are just "the tip of the iceberg" — most cheating is only caught by happenstance. The phenomenon now extends beyond East Asia, which CNN called ground zero: a Taiwanese applicant to a top medical school was caught when his glasses' frame emitted heat, South Korea logged two English-test incidents in May, and a Japanese teenager was referred to prosecutors for photographing entrance exam questions. Corbin argues banning devices won't fix the deeper assessment design problem.
