Google Research introduced GlucoFM, a lightweight self-supervised foundation model for continuous glucose monitoring (CGM) data.
- Dual-stream design: Unlike single-stream predecessors (CGMformer, GluFormer, CGM-JEPA), it separately models slow glycemic baseline trends and short-term deviations, preserving time-of-day and missingness signals
- Performance: Sets new standards across metabolic prediction tasks including diabetes risk assessment, insulin resistance, beta-cell dysfunction, and post-prandial glycemic response
- Why it matters: CGM sensors log interstitial glucose every few minutes, but high-quality clinical labels are sparse and costly; GlucoFM aims to enable metabolic insights with limited labeled data
