GlossoGen: a controlled sandbox for reproducible agent language emergence experiments

Responding to recent anecdotal single-run reports, the team built GlossoGen, a controlled environment for studying language emergence between agents: it supports repeatable experiments, rewinding simulations, and counterfactuals, with varied agent roles, environment events and pressures, and dedicated communication channels—in a sandbox where agents cannot execute code. Key factors include model strength, scratchpad access, and efficiency pressure; the resulting languages are morphologically productive, compositional, and transmissible.
