AI verification engineers grew from under 10 to ~50 worldwide, says Amodo CEO

In an MTS interview, Amodo's CEO drew a parallel between AI verification and nuclear verification: the latter wasn't handed down but built via DARPA's multi-billion-dollar Project Vela R&D. He cites the 2020 paper "Towards Trustworthy AI" (authors include Jack Clark pre-Anthropic and Google Brain members) calling for shared AI tooling. By his estimate, fewer than 10 engineers worked full-time on AI verification at the start of the year; now around 50. Haydn Belfield amplified the call: AI verification could be one of the most consequential fields for AI going well, and needs funders, labs, governments and engineers.
