AI safety's culture is eroding under the talent war, critics say

A widely shared take argues that AI safety emerged from a commitment to mitigating future risks to humanity, but has since culturally deteriorated as a byproduct of the talent war: inflated salaries attract competent engineers who transition into the field without much reflection on, or interest in, the actual problems it is trying to solve.
