Dad ditches OpenRouter token burn for local Qwen 3.8 + Pi agent, controlled via Telegram
dcnotpc · reddit · 2026-08-23
With his son's help, a father built a local AI workstation: AMD Ryzen 7 9700X + Radeon AI Pro R9700 (32GB RAM, 1TB disk, Ubuntu), running Qwen 3 Coder via Ollama, later upgraded to Qwen 3.8 with Pi as the agent harness. He had spent over a month burning tokens on OpenRouter while babysitting Claude Code or Codex; the local setup is far better. He can now instruct his PC remotely from his phone via Telegram. His goal: a better hockey management tool for the beer league season.
