Journalist builds Document Whisperer with Claude, no coding background
henkvaness · x · 2026-08-21
Veteran journalist Henk van Ess announced Document Whisperer, a tool that reads the fine print in lengthy documents to give reporters, researchers, lawyers and fact-checkers leads to work with.\n\nThe project grew out of FlipSide, built for the @claude challenge. In an accompanying essay he describes a coding competition that drew 13,000 applicants — a US lawyer tackling California's housing crisis, a Belgian cardiologist writing code that helps fix hearts, a road inspector in Uganda automating inspections. None of them are professional coders; all built working software with AI.
