Build an External Context Layer for Agent Memory Independence
blaizedsouza · x · 2026-08-20
Agent memory should belong to you, not to specific harnesses like Claude Code. This post recommends building a context layer outside the agent.
Two implementation approaches:
- Filesystem: Create an LLM wiki or a "Second Brain" with an AGENTS.md explaining navigation, CLI tools, and available skills.
- MCP Server: Serve memory via MCP, allowing you to switch harnesses by changing a config. It exposes memory, read/write tools, skills, and UI components to any compatible client, enabling workflows built on shared memory.
