Apache Incubator Accepts Its First Agent Harness Project: Maka
dotey · x · 2026-08-20
Apache Maka (Incubating) has become the first agent harness project in the Apache Incubator. Maka is a fully open-source, vendor-neutral agent project with a self-built harness core, aiming to be the high-performance harness best suited to open models—the initiators argue the harness layer is becoming proprietary to model vendors (each ships its own official CLI), leaving open-model ecosystems without a neutral option.
Development velocity is striking: the repo was created May 27 and within 10 weeks accumulated 710k lines of TypeScript (350k tests, 949 test files), 2,439 commits, and 1,218 merged PRs with a 93.8% merge rate and a 33.5-minute median merge time; July alone saw 943 merged PRs. The project reports top benchmark scores with fully open, reproducible reports.
