Mojo programming language is now open source under Apache 2.0

Following its 1.0 release, the Mojo programming language is now officially open source. The compiler and toolchain are released under the Apache 2.0 license. While Mojo originally aimed to be a superset of Python to leverage the existing ecosystem, the plan shifted in August 2025. It is now its own language, focused on optimizing GPU programming with Python-inspired syntax, without the strict requirement of full Python compatibility.
