California Lifts Ban on Autonomous Heavy Truck Testing; Teamsters Sue

California's DMV lifted its ban on trucks over 10,000 lbs testing autonomously on state highways, and the Teamsters union is suing the state over it. Aurora and Kodiak already run fully driverless (no human in the seat) commercial truck routes in Texas. California still requires a safety driver for now — the same first step Texas took before going fully driverless. The author argues no one believes humans stay in those seats forever; this only delays the inevitable.
