Ex-OpenAI Exec Calls Out AI Media Leaks as PR Ploys for Relevance
suchenzang · x · 2026-08-13
Former OpenAI executive Suchenzang criticized the frequent media "leaks" in the AI industry, arguing that many exclusives are essentially PR stunts where insiders exaggerate their importance.
Reflecting on a November 2024 The Information report on Gemini, he noted that the article sandwiched routine facts like "tuning hyperparams" and "using synthetic data" around specific names of employees wanting to boost their profile. He pointed out that an unreasonable gap between press mentions and actual reality often reveals the leakers, adding that London's AI scene remains a "leaky bucket."
