The Enterprise AI Paradox: Why Renting Generic Models Is Unsustainable

heyshrutimishra · x · 2026-08-12

Enterprise AI is currently in a paradoxical state: companies want to differentiate through AI, yet they rent the exact same generic intelligence as their competitors.

This model presents multiple contradictions. Highly specialized workflows rely on generalized models; companies pay premium prices for massive models where only a fraction of the intelligence is actually relevant to their tasks; and core business operations lack sovereignty. Consequently, the next era of enterprise AI will shift toward building and owning specialized intelligence that compounds with proprietary data.
