Enterprise AI Paradox: Renting Generic Models vs Owning Specialized Intelligence

iamfakhrealam · x · 2026-08-12

A tech practitioner highlighted the paradoxical state of enterprise AI: companies want to differentiate with AI, yet rent the same generic models as competitors. Their workflows are highly specialized, but they rely on generalist models. They worry about costs, yet pay premium prices for massive models where only 1% of the intelligence is relevant to their tasks.

This equilibrium is unsustainable. The next era of enterprise AI will shift towards building and owning 'specialized intelligence.' Just as renting an entire codebase sounds absurd today, renting core intelligence will eventually become equally unthinkable.
