Oracle to Cut Jobs as AI Infrastructure Spending Creates $23.7B Cash Flow Deficit

Business Insider reports that Oracle is planning another round of layoffs this month, targeting double-digit percentage cuts in some teams to reduce payroll before the new quarter begins on September 1.
This move highlights the severe tradeoffs of the AI infrastructure boom. To fund the construction of data centers and chip purchases, Oracle has racked up massive debts. The company's capital expenditures hit $55.7 billion against $32.0 billion in operating cash flow, resulting in a staggering negative free cash flow of $23.7 billion. Even with surging AI demand and a 77% jump in cloud infrastructure revenue, Oracle is forced to cut jobs to balance massive capital spending with Wall Street's profitability expectations.
