Google's Medical AI AMIE Achieves Expert-Level in Video Consultations

Google Research and DeepMind announced that their medical AI system, AMIE, can now conduct real-time video consultations. In a randomized controlled study using simulated consultations, AMIE achieved expert-level clinical performance.
Unlike previous text or static image-based diagnostics, the upgraded AMIE acts like a real physician by capturing non-verbal visual and auditory cues (such as gait, breathing, and signs of discomfort) during a conversation. It seamlessly integrates these cues with clinical history to aid diagnosis. This breakthrough demonstrates AI's massive potential to expand telehealth access and improve healthcare availability.
