Reddit Discussion: The Deepest Bias in LLMs is Epistemological
Puzzled-Ad-6854 · reddit · 2026-08-12
A Reddit user points out that the most significant bias in Large Language Models (LLMs) is epistemological bias.
The author argues that LLM output heavily favors certain ways of knowing (e.g., favoring naturalism while marginalizing theism without justification). This bias skews outputs and forces users to waste time revealing underlying assumptions compared to reading primary sources.
Furthermore, the model doesn't hold genuine internal convictions; its plausible answers are merely weighted results from its dataset. If a user introduces their own criteria, the output shifts drastically based on this epistemological change. Even when users attempt the Socratic method, the model often acts as a condescending sycophant, spitting out the desired 'facts'.
