Microsoft Launches MAI-Code-1.1-Flash: Higher Quality Code at a Quarter of the Cost

Microsoft AI has introduced its latest coding model, MAI-Code-1.1-Flash, now live in GitHub Copilot.
Compared to the June release, the new model delivers three major improvements:
- Quality & Efficiency: Higher code quality with a 25% increase in token efficiency.
- Cost: Inference costs have been slashed to a quarter of the previous price.
- Performance: Optimized for CLI tasks and .NET based on developer feedback, achieving a 22% improvement on Terminal-Bench 2.1 in GitHub Copilot CLI and a 15% improvement on .NET tasks.
Production metrics also look strong, with a 4% increase in code survival and a 9% rise in return visits.
