LangChain: Only 7% of agent calls need frontier models, routing cuts costs by 74%

LangChain's official blog introduces NVIDIA's open-source model routing library NeMo Switchyard, with real-world data: in their Deep Agents evaluation suite, only 7% of calls needed a frontier model (e.g., Claude Opus 4.8), while 93% were handled by a 30B-parameter Nemotron 3.5 Lightning, cutting total cost by 74% while retaining 93% accuracy. The article also provides a cost tradeoff formula to help teams decide when to adopt routing.
