OpenAI's Frequent Quota Resets Seen as Cover for Sol Model Pricing Flaw

OpenAI has been frequently resetting usage limits for users, sparking community skepticism about its model pricing strategy. The author notes that there have been about 15 quota resets since the Sol model launched just over a month ago. This isn't pure generosity, but rather because Sol consumes far more tokens than its anticipated pricing when executing complex tasks.
Although OpenAI previously slashed the costs of models like Luna and Terra, the price of Sol—the model causing the compute drain—remains unchanged. The author argues that by patching model efficiency and quietly resetting quotas, OpenAI is effectively eating the overage costs to mask its initial pricing misstep, thereby avoiding the negative optics of an official price cut.
