Inside Higher Ed reports a hiring spree for philosophers of AI across US universities. This fall alone, more than a dozen philosophy departments—including Purdue, UIC and Georgia Tech—have announced searches for AI-focused tenure-track faculty, and PhilJobs.com listings suggest the trend is accelerating.
While humanities job markets are bleaker than ever, philosophy is seen as uniquely suited to questions AI raises about mind and knowledge, according to Cameron Buckner, who took an endowed chair in philosophy of AI at the University of Florida in 2024.
