$2M Book Deal Pulled Over AI Use Allegations, Publishing Industry Cracks Down

The impact of AI on the book publishing industry is causing severe repercussions. Nigerian author Jerry Adedayo Falade's novel Call Me, I’ll Hide the Body sparked a bidding war with offers up to $2 million. However, the massive publishing deal was scrapped after his agents dropped him due to an inability to authenticate how the manuscript was produced.

The agents stated that while the author initially reassured them AI was not used in the writing or editorial process, they could no longer substantiate this claim. The author denied using AI to write the book but admitted to using an open-source AI tool for research details. This incident highlights the traditional publishing industry's strict stance on originality and the ethical dilemmas it faces in the age of AIGC.
