As a linguist and interpretability researcher, the author reflects on Chain-of-Thought (CoT): while they would love for CoT to play a key role, a repeated lesson is that behavioral metadata generally reveals the most important parts of the story. They acknowledge that any misunderstanding of the current situation is on them.
