Real-Time TTS Cloning on Mac: No GPU, No Code, Fully Automated by Agents
doodlestein · x · 2026-08-09
Developer doodlestein successfully achieved near real-time voice cloning (TTS) on a $1,000 Mac mini M4. After optimization, their FrankenTTS project runs locally at 1.05x real-time speed, fully meeting practical use requirements, with further speedups expected.
Most surprisingly, the entire process requires no GPU and no coding, as it was fully automated by AI agents. The author uses this to question the moat of TTS unicorns valued in the billions (like ElevenLabs) when high-quality voice cloning for any voice can now be done by consumers on cheap hardware.
