Responding to the observation that the current AI race is essentially between two companies located less than two miles apart, researcher Boaz Barak offers a counterpoint.
He argues that competition is beneficial and antitrust laws exist for a reason, meaning other parties should not be counted out. While developing regulations and industry-wide mechanisms to prevent a 'race to the bottom' on safety is crucial, he emphasizes that this should not be dictated by backroom meetings between just two companies.
