Apple's 1987 Knowledge Navigator Video is Becoming Reality
LukeW · x · 2026-08-08
Designer Luke Wroblewski notes that the core technologies envisioned in Apple's 1987 "Knowledge Navigator" concept video are materializing today.
The video predicted folding touchscreen tablets, conversational speech, animated agent personas, fuzzy semantic search, and agents that ask clarifying questions. This paradigm is compelling because it removes the need to memorize voice commands or query syntax, allowing humans to interact with computers naturally through direct manipulation, acting like people rather than machines.
