Building Economically Autonomous Agents: Payments Are Just One Primitive
RichardsonDx · x · 2026-08-07
The author points out that payments are merely a basic primitive in building economically autonomous agents. A truly autonomous agent requires a full stack of financial interaction and management capabilities.
This includes accepting revenue, invoicing customers, receiving stablecoins, holding capital, routing liquidity, converting and settling funds, paying merchants, transferring funds, issuing refunds, reconciling transactions, and reusing earnings.
To handle these operations across various providers through a single interface, the author introduces Mandate, an infrastructure aimed at providing agents with comprehensive economic autonomy.
