Open-Sourcing Mandate: A Financial Stack Giving AI Agents Economic Autonomy
RichardsonDx · x · 2026-08-07
The author highlights that the critical bottleneck for autonomous agents today is 'money islands.' An agent might earn revenue via Provider A, hold funds in Wallet B, and need to pay through Rail C. When money gets trapped in one of these silos, the agent's autonomy collapses, requiring human intervention to bridge the gaps.
To solve this, the author built Mandate, an open-source, provider-agnostic financial stack. It allows agents to compose various financial APIs into a single continuous economic account, enabling them to earn in one place, hold value in another, spend elsewhere, and reinvest earnings without human hand-holding.
Mandate’s architecture is highly composable:
- Receive: Stripe, PayPal, stablecoins, marketplace payouts
- Hold: Bank accounts, financial wallets, stablecoin treasuries
- Move: ACH, wire transfers, bridges, onchain transfers
- Spend: Cards, bank transfers, stablecoins, x402
The author argues that neither crypto-only nor fiat-only systems can fully support machine-to-machine commerce. The future is hybrid, and Mandate provides the infrastructure for agents to operate seamlessly across both worlds, compounding their value over time.
