AMD Acquires AI Inference Chip Startup Taalas to Boost AI Compute

AMD has reached a definitive agreement to acquire Taalas, a pioneer in specialized AI inference silicon. Founded in 2023 and headquartered in Toronto, Taalas focuses on rethinking AI inference by designing hardware around models to significantly reduce compute and memory bottlenecks.
AMD plans to integrate Taalas' technology into its accelerator roadmap and develop system-level solutions paired with AMD Instinct GPUs, further strengthening its full-stack AI platform for the rapidly growing inference market.
