Nature Paper: AI and Robotic Platform Accelerates Automated Enzyme Engineering
KevinKaichuang · x · 2026-08-06
Nature Communications published a new study named REAP (Rank-guided Exploration for Automated enzyme reProgramming). This closed-loop platform combines artificial intelligence with robotic experimentation to accelerate enzyme engineering.
At the core of the platform is RankReg, a hybrid loss function designed to learn effectively from sparse data. This approach aims to overcome the bottlenecks of rugged fitness landscapes and limited model data capacity in traditional biocatalyst development, offering a more sustainable route for synthesizing complex molecules.
