Google Loses $186B Market Cap as Jeff Dean and DeepMind Execs Reshuffle
量子位 · wechat · 2026-08-06
Google's Chief Scientist Jeff Dean has announced his departure to start a new venture called DiscoveryLoop, focusing on the automation of machine learning and science. The founding team is exceptionally high-profile, featuring four Google AI veterans: Jeff Dean, Sanjay Ghemawat, Quoc Le, and Oriol Vinyals.
Simultaneously, Google DeepMind underwent a major leadership reorganization: CEO Demis Hassabis stepped down from daily operations to become Chairman and Alphabet's Chief Scientist, focusing on long-term AGI strategy. His previous responsibilities were handed over to his deputy, Koray Kavukcuoglu, who will report directly to CEO Sundar Pichai.
Google has been continuously losing core AI talent recently, with several key members poached by OpenAI and Anthropic. Following these massive personnel shifts, Google's stock price dropped by 4%, wiping out approximately $186 billion in market capitalization.
