Recursive Self-Improvement Is Coming, Starting with the R&D Calendar

The author argues that the first visible signs of recursive self-improvement (RSI) will appear in the collapsing R&D calendar. Currently, building a better model involves handoffs across research, coding, evaluation, and hardware, costing weeks or months. However, current frontier job listings indicate AI is entering every part of this chain.
For instance, Claude already writes much of Anthropic's committed code, and its training-data loop closes in hours or days. OpenAI’s model flywheel is automating experiments, evals, and deployment. The author predicts that as models help create their successors faster, the gap between generations will shrink from a year to six months, then weeks, potentially triggering an intelligence explosion via a collapsed calendar.
