Top Hedge Funds Hit by AI Voice Phishing; Clones Need Seconds of Audio

Major hedge funds and private equity firms, including Point72, Two Sigma, and Citadel, have been targeted by a wave of AI-powered voice phishing (vishing) attacks.

Attackers use AI to perfectly mimic the voice, tone, and phrasing of executives or colleagues to trick employees into granting system access. Experts note that creating a convincing voice clone now requires only a few seconds of audio. By leveraging LLMs to adapt scripts in real-time, attackers can scale what used to be highly targeted attacks on 50 entities to over 1,000 potential targets simultaneously.
