DeepMind Shakeup: Hassabis Becomes Chief Scientist, Gemini 4 Confirmed

Google DeepMind announced a major leadership restructure. Demis Hassabis is stepping up to become Chair of Google DeepMind and Alphabet's Chief Scientist, dedicating his focus to AGI strategy, scientific discovery, and Isomorphic Labs.
Koray Kavukcuoglu has been promoted to SVP, responsible for all aspects of model development, research, and the Gemini app and dev teams. The restructure reflects Gemini's massive scale, now serving 950 million monthly users. Google also officially confirmed that Gemini 4 is in development.
Additionally, Jeff Dean and Sanjay Ghemawat are leaving to found Discovery Loop, a public benefit corporation focused on automating machine learning and science, with Alphabet remaining as an investor and Cloud partner.
