Mila Unveils Milo, the First Fully Autonomous Open-Source Robot Guide Dog

Mila_Quebec · x · 2026-08-05

Mila has introduced Milo, the first fully autonomous robot guide dog. It relies entirely on on-device AI for navigation and obstacle avoidance, requiring no internet connection or cables, and is 100% open-source.

Since training a certified guide dog in Canada costs tens of thousands of dollars and takes months, Milo is designed to bridge this supply gap. It can be mass-produced to help visually impaired individuals gain independence while they wait for a real dog.
