Anthropic has officially confirmed it is building an in-house silicon team to design custom AI chips specifically for its Claude models. This marks the first time the AI lab has publicly acknowledged its custom chip plans.
A company spokesperson stated that the initiative involves "co-designing hardware and models" to enable Claude to run faster and more efficiently at scale. Anthropic also emphasized it will maintain a "multi-chip approach," continuing to rely heavily on hardware from AWS, Google, Nvidia, and AMD. Previous reports indicated that Anthropic has been in talks with Samsung Electronics regarding potential manufacturing partnerships.
