OOMWOO: An Open-Source Robot Vacuum Built on Raspberry Pi

Jasonio · x · 2026-08-05

OOMWOO is an open-source robot vacuum project designed for users to build themselves. Powered by a Raspberry Pi, it features 2D LiDAR mapping, ROS2 navigation, and native Home Assistant integration, operating entirely locally without cloud dependency or vendor lock-in.

The development team conducted extensive research on the 2025-2026 robot vacuum market before designing it, discovering that real-world cleaning performance doesn't necessarily correlate with advertised suction power. It also features an anti-tangle tapered rubber roller design to solve the common hair-wrap issue found in commercial models, which can be easily 3D printed.
