OpenAI fires back at Apple's lawsuit, claiming it's based on misdirected emails and internal flaws

In response to Apple's lawsuit accusing OpenAI of poaching talent and stealing trade secrets, OpenAI published a detailed blog post titled "Apple is getting this wrong," exposing several flaws in Apple's legal actions.
OpenAI pointed out that Apple's outside counsel confused the surnames of two Asian executives (Che Chang and Chang Liu), leading to misdirected emails and false claims of prior communication. Furthermore, regarding accusations that former employee Chang Liu accessed confidential information post-departure, OpenAI shared chat records showing Apple colleagues actively contacted Liu for work assistance. OpenAI argued that the "residual access" issue stems from Apple's poor offboarding management, emphasizing that former Apple executive Tang Tan explicitly refused to use any proprietary information from his old company.
