NeurIPS reviewer says LLMs make rebuttals too long and word limits help

In a quoted reflection on their first NeurIPS reviewing experience, the author argues that word limits would be a net positive.
Their main complaints:
- author rebuttals were extremely long, partly because LLMs made it easy to write them;
- many papers were not good, though they note that’s also true in some CV venues;
- not every problem can be fixed in revision.
