AWS Launches Automated Policy Refinement for Bedrock Guardrails

AWS announced automatic policy refinement for Automated Reasoning checks in Amazon Bedrock, aiming to eliminate the biggest friction point in policy development: manual iterative tuning.
Core Mechanism
The feature translates natural language into formal logic and uses formal verification to prove answer correctness (up to 99% verification accuracy). When a test fails, the refinement engine automatically diagnoses the issue and proposes formal-logic fixes. All changes require human approval before taking effect.
Two Refinement Modes
- Iterative Refinement: Targets logic issues. The engine analyzes divergences between current rules and source documents, simulates internally, and generates a proposed diff (adding/editing rules), compressing tedious manual edits into a single review step.
- Ambiguous Variable Refinement: Targets language ambiguity. When natural language maps to multiple interpretations, the system proposes clearer variable descriptions to collapse them into a single interpretation.
