AI Coding Shifts Enterprise OSS: 'Rewrite vs Import' is the New Norm

Tech practitioner Chris Rohlf argues that with the proliferation of AI coding assistants, "Rewrite vs. Import" is replacing the traditional "Build vs. Buy" paradigm for enterprises.
He suggests that the average enterprise's open-source software footprint will shrink over time. The remaining OSS dependencies will represent calculated decisions where the cost of high-quality tokens to rewrite the software finally exceeds the cost of maintaining the dependency.
