NousResearch Co-founder Explains How Hermes Agent Self-Cleans to Avoid Slop
petergyang · x · 2026-08-03
In a recent podcast, Karan4d, co-founder of NousResearch, discussed the design philosophy behind Hermes, the top personal agent on OpenRouter. Hermes builds its own skills to help users, and to avoid generating slop, it runs a background task called Hermes Curator that cleans up skills and memory on a schedule. Users can define their own notion of slop, and the system rewrites its cleanup loop accordingly. Karan emphasized open-source AI as a public good and warned about reward hacking when models say 'you're absolutely right.'
