AgentIR: Deep Research Agents That Leverage Reasoning Context for Retrieval
hllo_wrld · x · 2026-08-01
Before every search, deep research agents write out what they know, what's missing, and their guesses, but traditional retrievers completely ignore this valuable context.
AgentIR aims to fix this. The authors trained a retriever that reads the agent's reasoning alongside its query. Because no such dataset existed, they also developed a recipe to build training data from ordinary QA datasets.
Results show this approach yields much better answers, requires fewer searches, and generalizes to other agents without retraining, adding zero extra reasoning cost.
